UPDATE ON
ARC 2000 INTERNATIONAL RALLY - Hants
& Berks Rover Owners Club
Following discussions with MOD, day visitor
parking charges have been set at £5 per day or £10
for the weekend. Competitive event entry lists are
filling up. Additional Supplementary Regulations have
now been finalised and will be sent out to all
competitors when confirmation and site details are
sent out nearer the event. For those with internet
access they can be found on the event web site: www.4x4web.co.uk/ARC2000
A.R.C. 2000
INTERNATIONAL RALLY: 27th - 29th MAY 2000
Both A.R.C. and Hants. & Berks. Rover Owners'
Club are particularly keen to welcome "non-competitive"
members of both Car Clubs and Land Rover Clubs to
this year's event. The site for the event is at
Bordon (south of Farnham, Hants.) and has a large
area of tarmac on which the Main Arena will be
situated. There is a hard roadway into the site and
around it so there is no need for our classic car-owning
members to take their vehicles off the hard surface.
There is a full programme of arena events, such as
"Paint the Landie", Welly-throwing, "Pull
a 101", and displays by the Dunsfold Collection,
British Army Motoring Association, a Military Vehicle
Preservation Group, and from the nearby R.E.M.E.
heavy vehicle museum. This is in addition to display
stands by the 'single marque' A.R.C. clubs and arena
presentations of vehicles from these clubs, where I
shall be talking with the owners "on air",
to find out just what is different and interesting
about their vehicle.
This year the Concours D'Elegance, which has
classes for both Land Rover products and Rover Cars,
and an overall "Working Vehicle" class for
Land Rovers, has a sponsor - Land Rover Monthly
magazine - whose aim is to raise the profile of the
"Concours" at the A.R.C. International
Rally and give this event the coverage "in print"
that has so long been lacking in the specialist press.
There is a real opportunity this year for the Car
Clubs' members, and for those of us Land Rover owners
who have little interest in the main competitions (R.T.V.
- C.C.V.T. - Comp. Safari and Winch) which have been
the "back-bone" of the International Rally,
to come along to Bordon over the Spring Bank Holiday
weekend (Concours on Sunday) and really have
something of interest, not only to watch, but to take
part in.
There are already eight trophies in the main
Concours (both Rover Car and Land Rover products)
plus two in the "Working Vehicle" section -
gone are the days of just one cup for an overall
winner! So now it is up to you - our members. Please
support the event with at least your attendance and,
even better, your entry into the Concours. Only with
your support can the efforts of the organisers, the
sponsors and, above all, the donors of all the new
trophies, be rewarded.

THE LAND
ROVER MARQUE DAY AND HERITAGE MOTOR CENTRE RUN
Sunday 18th June 2000
Following-on from the "history lesson"
in A.R.C. News No. 31, more details are now confirmed
about this year's event.
H.M.C. RUN
In 1999, it being the first time that H.M.C. had
hosted the 'RUN', an entry fee, heavily subsidised by
H.M.C., was set. This year an entry fee for the 'RUN'
of £10 has been agreed, and will include vehicle
entry into the 'RUN', the Rally-plate and a limited
edition Rally Plaque. Also covered in the 'RUN' entry
fee is free access to the Museum and grounds for the
driver, one adult passenger and all children under 16
years. Other passengers in 'RUN' vehicles will need
to pre-purchase their admission tickets (at a
specially discounted rate of £5 for the weekend)
from H.M.C. - telephone Jane Roche on 01926 645120.
This discounted weekend rate for H.M.C. admission is
available to all A.R.C. members, not just those
entering a vehicle in the 'RUN' -- remember, the
driver of a Land Rover product, and under 16's, get
free entry anyway. If you do not pre-purchase these
discounted tickets, you will be charged the normal
price of £6 per day at the kiosk.
Whilst it is acknowledged that this year's entry
fee to the 'RUN' represents a large increase on last
year's fee, a realistic entry fee is necessary to
ensure the future of the event, and it is anticipated
that the current fee will hold good for several years,
subject to the general format of the event remaining
unchanged.
The 'RUN' will assemble at The Land Rover Works in
Solihull, and leave there at 10.00 hrs for the drive
to Gaydon, where the various sections of the
cavalcade will "re-group" prior to driving
down the spine-road to the Arena.
Camping/caravanning will be available, both for
those taking part in the 'RUN' and for those
attending the weekend's events, to members of A.R.C.
Clubs only. The site, on the 'meadow' within H.M.C.
grounds, has toilets, washing facilities, water and
waste disposal, but no showers, and will be open from
noon on Friday 16th June until noon on Monday 19th
June. Pre-booking is essential due to limited spaces
available. Please note that all Range Rover Register
members, even if hoping to take part in Sunday's H.M.C.
RUN, should book any camping or caravan pitch
required with their own Club. Any non-A.R.C. members
requiring caravan or camping facilities should
contact Jane Roche at H.M.C. (01926 645120) for
details of local sites.
LAND ROVER
MARQUE DAY
This, too, is becoming a well-established event in
the Land Rover events calendar. In addition to the
usual displays by both A.R.C. and non-A.R.C. Clubs,
and the regular children's attractions (such as the
children's roadway, face-painting, etc.) there will
be the static displays by the Range Rover Register,
carried on from the Saturday, and trade/auto-jumble
stands. The concessionary weekend entrance fee
arrangements (see 'H.M.C. RUN' above) for those
arriving in a Land Rover product, show a good saving
on the normal adult admission price of £6 per person
per day.
Why not book-in, make a weekend of it and enjoy
yourselves? You can be sure of a warm welcome from
Heritage, A.R.C. and the Range Rover Register, and
there will be plenty of Land Rovers to look at! A
booking form, covering both 'H.M.C. RUN' application
and a Camping/Caravanning reservation is printed
elsewhere in this A.R.C. News.

"NEWS
ITEMS" FROM CHRIS SAVIDGE (Snr)
1. MERLIN
LAND ROVER - NOTTINGHAM
Merlin kindly donated "The Merlin -
Nottingham Land Rover Trophy" to A.R.C. for use
in the Land Rover Concours D'Elegance at the
International Rally last year, and this was awarded
to Richard Lines (LRR:48-53). Members will no doubt
be pleased to learn that Merlin - Nottingham have
recently been named as "number one dealer"
in Land Rover's U.K. Dealer League. Congratulations
to Dermot Brennan and his team at Nottingham.
2. THE A.R.C.
'ALL-ROVER WEEKEND' 26th - 28th August 2000
Again to be held as part of the newly re-vamped
"Town and Country Festival" at The Royal
Showground, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. Details
are now coming through, but will be published in the
next A.R.C. News, when a query on camping/caravanning
has been resolved. Mark your diaries and watch this
space! P6 Rover Owners' Club and Rover Sports
Register members are very welcome.
In 1998, as part of the Land Rover 50th Anniversary
celebrations, the inaugural Solihull Heritage Run was
held. The title implied the intention of the
organisers - Land Rover - that the event would become
an annual one.
Early in 1999, with tentative enquiries to Land
Rover having "fallen on deaf ears", it
looked unlikely that the event would continue.
However, late in February 1999, Heritage Motor Centre
decided that they would take on the event, with help
from ARC. Thus the 1999 Heritage Motor Centre Run
took place. Organisation time was very short, but the
event took place alongside Heritage Motor Centre's
Land Rover Marque Day at the beginning of May.
In 2000, however, due to the 30th Anniversary of
the launch of Range Rover falling on Saturday 17th
June, the Land Rover Marque Day and Heritage Motor
Centre Run have been moved to Sunday 18th June and
will run jointly with the celebrations for "Range
Rover - 30" and the Range Rover Register's
birthday event on Saturday 17th June. This year's
event is planned to be very similar to last year's (without
the tour of the Proving Ground). At present, it is
envisaged that the Run will start later (probably
1000 hrs) thus addressing one of the major criticisms
from participants of last year's event. Camping on
the meadow at the Heritage Motor Centre is also
planned, where Range Rover Register will be holding
their birthday rally.
Further details, including costs, will be set out
in ARC News when these are confirmed by HMC. It is
worth mentioning here that last year's entry fee of
£5 per vehicle was greatly subsidised by HMC and did
not cover costs, so an increase is envisaged to a sum
that will cover costs, but it is anticipated that
this increased entry fee will hold for several years
unless the format of the run changes in response to
the comments of participants.

Please
Note - ARC News Distribution
Just a reminder that address updates
are only done three times per year. The closing dates
for clubs to send information are 1st March, 1st July
and 1st November. If you change your address you need
to ensure your club has registered your change of
address and has then passed that change on in your
club's next update to the ARC. The responsibility for
getting any change of address to the ARC rests with
your club. Any club, which has missed two updates,
will be removed from the circulation list until a new
address update is received. Please be aware that with
the exception of duplicates, (which may arise if you
belong to more than one club) all address errors
should be directed towards your club. With a
circulation list of over 10,000 addresses, the ARC
cannot handle address changes. Club member address
lists/updates to Andrew Neaves please - address as
above in previous item. Thank you.
IMPORTANT -
Participation at any competitive event or show is at
your own risk. Although the ARC is happy to publicise
such events it does not act as an agent for the
organisers. Statements or opinions expressed in ARC
News are not necessarily those of the ARC Council.
You are advised to obtain independent advice on
